Betsy and Bob Youngman are avid cross country skiers and endurance sport athletes residing in Sun Valley, Idaho. Their athletic backgrounds begin with national-level road cycling in the late 1970s through the early 1980s. Bob retired from competition in 1980 and focused on graduate school while Betsy continued on and became an alternate to the 1984 Olympic Cycling Team. After retirement and three years as a middle school science teacher, Betsy returned to elite competition, this time as a cross country skier. With the advent of the skating technique, it was an ideal time for a “new” skier to arrive on the scene and Betsy was named to the US Ski Team in 1987 and the 1988 and 1992 USA Olympic Cross Country Ski Teams. Throughout their athletic careers, they have gathered a lot of experience by working with many excellent National and Olympic coaches and by reading many books and hundreds of peer-reviewed academic articles on the subject of endurance training. They maintain a blog dedicated to training for masters cross country skiers at Brave Enough
