On week 12 of the training year NTC returns to higher volume while adding in a few more elements of intensity. We continue with quality speed training early on in the week while our muscles are fresh and snappy. The L3 interval recommendation adds the stress of fast finishes to help athletes practice gear changes, finishing speed, and clearing lactic acid.
Even with substantial hours and training volume NTC will be running a race on the weekend. It is not our goal to feel amazing and crush this running race, instead use it as a training opportunity to log some sustained L4/race pace during a solid week of training. For those following along at home feel free to substitute with a local TT in any mode, running test, or L4 intervals.
NOTES:
- For more info on how to execute L3 intervals with fast finish we have uploaded an entry to outline that session
- Athletes interested in prioritizing explosive training can continue to add in more plyometrics at the end of their Morning Mechanics drills. (see morning mechanics videos)
- Make sure to practice executing a warm up plan and mental preparation before doing a summertime TT or race
