This week marks the biggest training week for the Nordic Team Collegiate group here in Bozeman. We are creeping up on the end of July and with that will come some of the biggest training weeks of the year. Typically elite skiers will log their biggest single training weeks between the end of July and the middle to end of August. For the NTC group this means weekly totals in the 19 to 24 hour range with a focus on distance training and threshold.
We still continue with speed work early on in the week and also continue with two heavy max strength sessions. Along with distance training volume we will try to push our limits in L3 interval volume as well by logging some solid on-time during the two threshold sessions (40 - 55 minutes of on-time)
NOTES:
- We have the potential for 3 Over Distance workouts this week with a gaol of building base efficiency.
- Even during a big volume week I recommend taking one full off day somewhere in the week. This means single days must have more hours. During an elite 'big week' it can be common to have at least one 5 hour day. This is real, full time training and is not recommended for athletes without a big base.
- Nutrition and recovery become a huge priority during a big week. Make sure to monitor fatigue and pay attention to how your legs are feeling. For more info on tackling a big week read the Big Week 101 entry.
