Hopefully everyone is feeling better and better as the training year progresses. Like we mentioned last week sometimes the body needs a little bit of physical stress after a big resting period to begin feeling 100%.
This week we continue to step up our steady training by incorporating our first rollerski speed session of the year. Check out the video May Speed as well as the periodized speed training entry to learn more about our goals during this workout.
The Junior, Master, and Elite plans will all recommend a running test this week! By now we should have done enough cross training to get our legs ready for a short hard effort. We use running tests like this to help monitor aerobic capacity throughout the prep-period so May is a great time to set a baseline test. (We will post our new strength testing protocol next week)
NOTES:
- If you are not comfortable doing a running test or if you are nursing an injury feel free to replace with a 3k SkiErg test. Set the Erg to the easiest setting and after a good warm up record how long it takes you to pull 3K.
- Elite plan has two intensity sessions planned. For Junior and master we recommend some light specific strength to get the arms used to pounding pavement.
- If you are feeling up for it, incorporate the May Plyometric routine during Wednesday's strength session
