At this point in our recovery phase we should feel like we are starting to absorb the season as a whole after a few weeks of reduced volume. This week we increase the intensity slightly with two very important maintenance workouts. First we tap into our anaerobic system with some L4 intervals. This session does not have to be stressful on the mind or body, just have fun with it. Our goal is to simply elevate the heart rate into L4 to help bridge our fitness from one season to the next.
The second big maintenance workout comes in the form of a long distance session on the weekend. Ski tours, backcountry skiing, hiking, or biking are great ways to get in some longer sessions in April. All of these workouts can be flexible and moved to different days in the week to account for weather and fun-factor.
We continue with a general plan for all Junior, Masters, and Elite until the end of the training year. Use the next two weeks to solidify important goals for the new training season.
