Welcome to the start of the training year! In some ways this year starts 'early' because May 1st falls on a Saturday but nonetheless it's the start of a new season!
Since we have an early start this year, we are keeping week one very light. We have no interval training recommendation and instead will wait until week two to kick off the intensity. We do incorporate some leg speeds or bike speeds to help rev up the engines and elevate our heart rates. We continue with our April base prep strength for one more week before we start a new General Strength plan next week.
NEW THIS SEASON! We will post a masters specific strength routine starting next week. These routines will follow the same periodization but have some masters specific exercises, accessible plyometrics, and slightly modified lifts.
Our goal in week one is to get the body used to regular training for those who have taken considerable rest in the off season. If you have continued to stay very active during April, thats great! This week might seem like a walk in the park for you. Regardless it's still a good idea to keep the first 2-3 weeks of the training year very conservative to lay a solid foundation to build on in the months to come. This is also why all plans incorporate two off days this week. We want to stress the body but make sure we are in a place to absorb new training stimulus.
