Week 15

Training in August can be kind of a transitional period for some skiers. After steadily building training volume for the past 3 months, some August training weeks will see a decrease in hours and a slight increase in intensity with some added L4 or sprint intensity.
It's a common saying in ski training that we don't want to mix volume with intensity and this is absolutely true. August however, can be a gray area with potentially the most mixing of volume and intensity we will see all year. We want to continue to train an efficient base while at the same time adding in more L4 and hard intensity (not as much as we will do in September and October, but some)

This is what August training weeks are all about, a little bit of everything as we give the body a small taste of some harder intensity. A standard medium August week can consist of some L4, L3, Speed, Over Distance, and moderate total hours,

NOTES:

 - We mix things up this week by switching a typical Tuesday speed session with our first 30 second sprint intensity of the year (see August Sprint Intensity)

- With this added stress of slightly tougher intensity make sure to keep the easy distance days all L1.

- It's been a while since we have done bounding L3. Remember that we say 'bounding' but during L3 we might also need to incorporate some ski walking. Mix up your technique to fit the terrain while at the same time keeping your heart rate in an L3 Threshold zone.
