This week hundreds of skiers from around the country will be competing at the US Nationals in Houghton, Michigan. Even for those who are not, I wanted to draft the general NTS plan to reflect a race series to showcase a few important aspects of a big race week. Notice the high frequency of short training (this is used to help the body feel good and recover) as well as race prep recommendations. This week's plan can be adjusted for any elite skier who is not doing 3 races this week.
The Masters plan is a bit different but will focus on similar themes. During the winter it is great practice to plan back to back intensities every so often. This week I have recommended a time trial or race followed by a controlled L3 Threshold session the next day.
Notes:
- Racing (or practice races) are some of the best ways to build fitness this time of year. If you have no races around your local area make a time trial with friends or teammates
- Practice and tweak your race prep depending on the race you are doing. Write down what you did and how you feel
- New strength plans are up. Depending on your schedule chose which plan fits best
