Congratulations to all the Birkie competitors and virtual competitors! This week you deserve some well earned rest. We do however want to continue to workout so our bodies don't go into hibernation mode. We recommend some steady but short easy distance training, one strength session, and a ski with 30 second pick ups later in the week .
Juniors! It's your time to shine. Throughout the country we have some regional junior championships coming up. The Midwestern Championships are this weekend (March 5-7) and the Western Championships are next weekend (March 11 - 13). In preparation we already started tapering training last week. This week we split the junior plan into a Midwestern recommendation that will focus on competitions this weekend and a Western recommendation that will continue to taper and sharpen for an additional 5 days.
Our Elite plan will continue to focus on quality training and building / maintaining fitness. For the remainder of the season the Elite plan will not have much racing scheduled in it so we find ourselves in a similar situation to last year. Our goal now is to find ways to improve fitness by stressing the body in unique ways to carry substantial fitness from one season to the other.
